Data collection Learning Environment and mental Well-being Time point 1 (year 2024)
Response data from an observational study of undergraduate physiotherapy, midwifery, nursing and nutrition and dietetics students at a University of Applied Sciences from all semesters are being collected through yearly online surveys from 2024 to 2029. The online surveys include the German versions of the Health Education Learning Environment Survey (HELES_D) and the Warwick Edinburgh mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS), and clinical placement experience of students. The HELES_D is a global assessment that measures health professions students' perceptions of the learning environment. It comprises 22 items and consists of 5 subscales: Work-life Balance (5 items), Faculty Relationships and Expectations (6 items), Peer Relationships (4 items), Clinical Skills Development (4 items), and Diversity (3 items). The HELES_D is rated on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1 = “strongly disagree” to 5 = “strongly agree”. The HELES_D items are averaged to provide a total LE score. For each of the subscales and the total score, a higher score indicates more positive perception of the LE. Clinical placement experience was rated dichotomously 1= yes and 2 = no. The WEMWBS is a 14-item measure of mental well-being focusing entirely on positive aspects and covering both feelings and functioning aspects of mental health. Study participants are asked to describe their experiences over a two-week reference period using a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1 = “none of the time” to 5 = “all of the time”. The total score of the WEMWBS is calculated as the sum of all items. The range of the WEMWBS is from 14 to 70 points with a higher score indicating a higher level of mental well-being.
