Collaborative Aesthetics in Global Sound Art

This deposited data set offers a representative cross-section of data generated by the research project Collaborative Aesthetics in Global Sound Art. Funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation 2021-26 and hosted at the research Division of the Bern Academy of the Arts, the project examined how the "collaborative turn" influences the production of sonic and aural knowledge in the Global South. By employing a transdisciplinary framework that integrated archival, ethnographic, and co-creative methods, the project provided visibility to post-digital sound practices as dynamic cultural meanings shaped by global forces. Central to this inquiry was a re-evaluation of collaboration as a mechanism for mediating social knowledge, achieved through a detailed study of the institutional contexts, microsocialities, and transnational networks that underpin experimental sound production. The dataset includes: 1. Transcripts of interviews with postdigital art radio makers in Morocco and South Africa 2. Documentation for the Subterranean Changes Research Podcast 3. Documentation for the Notes from below Research Podcast 4. Documentation for the Notes from below Exhibition in Berlin (2023) 5. Research in Moulay Bouchta (2023) 6. Documentation for the Sakhra Encounters in Moulay Bouchta (2025) 7. Documentation for the Subterranean Changes festival in Marrakech (2025) This dataset is an integral part of the broader scientific output of the project. This output includes one edited volume, two monographs, nine peer-reviewed book chapters, several sound pieces and media interventions, and a research website. The volume, monographs, research articles, and sound pieces are available in Open Access via the HKB ARBOR repository or on the project's website https://parastatal.art.
