Many institutions hold data that could help solve urgent problems and advance the public good, but they cannot safely share it. Hospitals need to compare outcomes without exposing patient information. Energy organizations need to coordinate grid and consumption data without revealing commercially sensitive operations. Biodiversity actors need to protect data about vulnerable species and ecosystems. Archives and cultural heritage organizations need to prevent extractive AI use while still enabling responsible research. The result is a widening gap between the data needed for public-good innovation and the data that can be used safely.
This presentation will present ClioX - a research output from the InterPARES Trust AI project - which is a data space demonstrator for cultural heritage providing an interoperability and governance layer for safe and ethical use of AI. A data space is a governed environment in which data can be discovered, accessed, and analyzed under agreed rules. In our approach, the data does not have to be centralized or handed over. Instead, approved AI tools are brought to the data, and only authorized results leave the environment. This is the project’s core shift: from data sharing as disclosure to data use as governed computation.
This talk is organized by the OLOS association and held by Victoria L. Lemieux. Victoria L.
