Creation of the OLOS Association

A national solution for the publication of research data

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Association that provides OLOS with a legal basis to host and archive your research data in Switzerland. By archiving, we mean the deposit, maintenance, accessibility, security and longevity of this data. OLOS is the result of several years of fruitful research and collaboration by experts from nine Swiss Higher-educational institutions, united in the DLCM (Data Life-Cycle Management) national project.

It is a Swiss-based solution for sharing and long-term archiving of research data that complies with the FAIR principles - which recommend that data be easy to Find, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. The solution not only complies with Swiss legislation and European regulations, but also with the ISO 14721 standard which specifies the model, requirements and characteristics of an Open Archival Information System (OAIS).

OLOS has three main goals:

  1. To implement best practices in research data management
  2. To guarantee data sovereignty at the national level
  3. To lead and participate in projects within national and international programs that contribute to open science and research data management

The OLOS Association is an independent organization that was created with the support of swissuniversities. However, its mission cannot be accomplished without the support of its members. Three founding members participated in its creation: the University of Fribourg, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO) and the Geneva School of Business Administration (HEG). Different types of membership (Gold, Silver or Bronze) offer the opportunity to any interested institution (higher-educational institution, company, network, etc.) to become a member in order to benefit from a range of services for its research community. Individual members of the community are also welcome.
